Fourth graders learned about contemporary artists who rely on chance and group involvement to create their artwork. After watching two videos about this kind of project (look below for the videos!) students began planning their own unpredictable art projects to engage the group. This particular group decided to create one large project as a whole class. These young artists spent several weeks sifting through ideas, refining their plan, identifying potential areas of success or failure, and preparing materials for the big day. They were persistent in their work, thinking critically about possibilities, materials, and potential outcomes and collaborating to make their idea a reality. Great job!

Last week Kortez and many other students finished their fantastic charcoal animations! They were engaged, inventive, and persistent in their work. Check back soon for ALL 6th grade animations. Sixth Graders have been learning to combine their skills in charcoal drawing and animation to create these gifs. We studied South African artist William Kentridge's animations to learn about his process.
